Gledali smo predstavu „Frankenstein – The Monster and the Myth“ na engleskom jeziku u kazalištu Kerempuh…

On April 10th 2019, at 11 o'clock, pupils from the 2nd and 3rd grades of Velika Gorica High School went to watch a play under the guidance of Martina N. Lackoviæ, our English teacher. The play ''Frankenstein - the Monster and the Myth“ was performed by The American drama group Europe at the Kerempuh Theater in Zagreb. The show was interesting and fully understandable and definitely a new experience that everyone would recommend. The play itself speaks of Dr. Frankenstein, his life and the monster he created. The performance was great and the actors did a great job. We thank our teacher for this creative experience and are looking forward to the next opportunity to have a different approach to our English lessons.

FRANKENSTEIN

The Monster and the Myth

On Wednesday, April 10th,2019 at 11:15 AM, a Frankenstein play was held in the Kerempuh theatre in Zagreb by TNT Theatre Britain. Our English teacher, Ms. Lackoviæ, took a few students from the 2nd and 3rd year, myself included, to see the play.

The play mostly followed the plot of the original story by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, but it had taken some liberties by adapting the themes of popular Hollywood movies based on the said book. The plot is familiar to most people. A young committed science student Victor Frankenstein is obsessed with discovering the cause of generation and life and bestowing animation upon lifeless matter which he succeeds in but is horrified by his creation and calls him a monster. The monster, later known as Frankenstein's monster goes into the village knowledgeless, where he finds a family and learns how to speak and behave from observing them. He befriends the blind father, but when the blind father's daughter sees him, she chases him away and informs the other villagers. Soon everyone is hunting the monster and Frankenstein, who is enraged and saddened by their actions. The monster hunts down his creator and threatens him to make a bride for him or he will kill everything he holds dear. During the final act, Victor Frankenstein attempts to revive his dead fiancee who had accidentally met her end at the hands of the villagers. Unfortunately, having woken up with no memory of her previous life and a sudden attraction for the monster, she decides to become the monster's bride.

Despite “Frankenstein“ being a gothic horror novel, the actors managed to bring comedy to an otherwise morbid story. Not to say that the play left out any of the horrifying moments such as Igor eating ligaments as well as drinking human vomit. Overall, the play succeeded in conveying the value of life and how thin of a line it is between genius and madness, and I for one am very happy I had the opportunity to see it.
