Student exchange

 

ERASMUS, one of subprograms of SOCRATES, is taking charge of student exchange. It started with work in 1987.

30 countries are included in ERASMUS. Its base is coperation between instituions for high education. It includes consrution of educational plan and program, and mobility of students and professors. Programs for stuednts offer them posibility of studying for one term in some other country, and that term will be approved in their country as a part of regular schooling. But, ERASMUS is working just in countries that are part of EU.

Program got the name by the philosopher, teoelogist and humanist Erazmo of Roterdamme, who, searching for knowledge, lived and worked in different parts of Europe.

 

Activities of ERASMUS:

  • support for sudent exchange

  • develop of educational plan and program

  • exchange of proffesors and stuff of universities

  • develop of coperating between universities in different regions

  • stimulation to universities for taking european dimension into their’s own programs of studying
     

Stratecig goals:

  • promoting of student, stuff and profesor exchange

  • develop of educational plan and program and of paneuropean thematic distribution

  • razvijanje tzv. europske dimenzije proširene u što više vlastitih programa sveučilišta

  • cooperating of universities with country institutions and private sectors of region, to get cooperate between countries that are included into the program better

  • stimulation of whole-life studying and new methods of learning

Croatia is not included in that program yet, but with TEMPUS program, it’s getting prepared for activities in ERASMUS.


EU have started a new program, Erasmus Mundus. It is also taking charge of mobility and student exchange, but its goal is promoting of European high schooling and stimuilating of cooperating with, so called, third countries, i. e., countries that aren’t part of EU.

Program was started in 2004. It’s going to last five years (2004-2008). For that program EU appropriated 230 mil. euros.

Eurostat, an EU office made for statistics, has said that Croatia is one of the 14 EU countries with negative population growth. However, in Croatia on each thousand men bourns only 8 babies, while on the same thousand - 10 people die. So small number of population Croatian only had 1945. By this information Croatia could have for 50 years, one million people less.
