Respecting nature and land

As every October so far, this one was no different. The pupils in Moravice decorated an autumn corner bring autumn fruits such as potatoes, peppers, corns, pumpkins, nuts, chestnuts, wheat, hawthorns, and many more. They even made a boy out of straw which they dressed in jeans and a hat. He looked like a real farmer.

During the month of October, we had a very special guest who told us many interesting stories of Moravice. He is an award-winning farmer and nature lover, snake whisperer, and protector of the old fruit species and well as the keeper of the local written and oral treasures. His name is Đorđe Dokmanović and thanks to him, our pupils got the chance to find out that all the land from the Macijansko lake to Gladi was covered with wheat, that Empress Maria Theresa of Austria demanded that all the locals grow fruit to avoid hunger, the school in a village Dokamnovici was the first one in whole Croatia that had a fruit school as well a school of beekeeping...Mr. Dokmanovic intrigued pupils and made them very curious regarding their homeplace. We parted with a promise we'll visit him in his orchard in the spring. Hopefully, we'll keep our promise.
