2017-01-16 10:06:41 Open Day 2016 It is a tradition in the 6th Primary School Varaždin that pupils (current and former), parents, teachers and other visitors take part in the Open Day. Basic idea of this year's project was 'Quest for knowledge' in which our school presented the new extracurricular activities through six 10-minute lessons held for pupils and parents (who had a chance to experience the role of pupils once again) getting marks for their participation. Parents were able to choose one of the six educational paths (scientifical, technical, creative, media, sports and EU path) according to their preferences, and they got one more path according to the school schedule. Each path included three workshops, and the task for the visitors was to attend all the workshops and to get marks in each of them. Each lesson was followed by a 5-minute break during which everyone was able to visit a sales exhibition organised by the school cooperative in the school lobby. The scientific path had three workshops: Young Scientists, Early Physics Learning and Astronomy Group. In the technical path the members of the Traffic Group repaired bicycles, and Young Computer Scientists and Young Technicians showed their activities. The creative path combined Home Economics (how to make Christmas cards and prepare fruit salad and chocolate balls), Ethno Group (pupils taught visitors to dance a folk dance called 'Turnip') and Ceramist Group (making figurines of a lady with a hat and a member of the town guard out of clay). The media path presented the work of Art Group, Photography Group and Journalist Group celebrating our school's 49th birthday, while Bookworms' Club and the Creative Reading and Writing Group presented their activities and their knowledge of literary theory. In the media path pupils also practically presented how they work together in creating My 6 Minutes radio show by making a radio interview. Parents and pupils who enjoy chess got their six minutes in the school lobby to play a game of chess. The sports path presented Orientational Running and tested the participants, while the School Sports Group 'Šesta' presented sports devices and elements that pupils can do. The EU path projected the photographs of every project in which pupils and teachers have participated so far. Visitors were especially delighted by a new event this year – the Christmas Fair, organised by the teachers of German, English and Croatian language outside in front of the school entrance: there were three stands with a sales exhibition of Christmas decorations, cards, posters, snowmen, gift bags, etc. made by our pupils. Pupils also read a Christmas story for the visitors in Croatian, recited poems and sang Christmas carols in English and German. Every customer got a free cookie and a cup of hot winter tea. Another novelty of this year's Open Day was the live streaming of the whole event on the school Youtube channel organised by the school Media Group. |
