Rome, capital of Italy, densely populate, with many business companies of internacional importance. Rich history and cultural heritage make Rome one of leading cultural world centers. There is an anciant saying "All roads lead to Rome". Vatican City is the smallest country on the world. It's situated on Vatican Hill in north-west Rome, just west of the River Tiber and it's the world centre of the Roman Catholic faith. It is surrounded by medieval and Renaissance walls and has six gates. The most important of these is St Peter's Basilica.
The Colosseum in Rome (70-82) is best known for its multi-level system of vaults made of concrete. It is called the Colosseum for a colossal statue of Nero that once stood nearby, but its real name is the Flavian Amphitheatre. It was used for staged battles between lions and Christians, among other spectacles, and is one of the most famous pieces of architecture in the world. The Piazza del Duomo, in Pisa, contains the Gothic Battistero (baptistry), the Romanesque cathedral, and the famous leaning tower, The Piazza was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Giuseppe Garibaldi, born in 1807, was an Italian patriot, soldier, and freedom fighter. Because of his brave battles and strong volition he gave Italy an independence. He ended his career as an elected legislator in the government he dedicated his life to establish.
Mafia is a big problem of Italy. It controlles the Sicilian countryside, infiltraties or manipulates local authorities, extorting money, and terrorizing citizens. It is concentraced on Sicily and every year it earns 100 billions dollars. The production of olives and olive oil is one of Italy's chief agricultural activities. Italy ranks as one of the world's leading producers of olive oil and wine, and its varied climatic conditions allows for the cultivation of many different fruits, vegetables, and cereals. The Dolomites rise above St Magdalena. The limestone mountains, unique because of their spectacular pinnacles, belong to a subdivision of the Eastern Alps and are part of the South Tirolese Alps in north Italy.
