Helsinki is a capital of Finland. There's a lot of things you can see in that city. The arctic scenery has inspired artists and architects for centuries. The biggest collection of sculpturs, paintings, drawings etc. in Finland is in Helsinki. Nokia, a famous mark of cellphones, is producing in Finland. Its name comes from name of outskirts of one city.
Real Santa Claus lives in Finland. He lives in little cottage. "Flying" deers are in Finland, too. During a year he sleeps, and then, just few days before Christmas he wakes up, checks lists, controls work of elfs and sets off… Northern lights
Appearance of the aurora is produced by the oxygen in the atmosphere, whereas the blue and violet light is due to nitrogen. The particles causing the Northern Lights come ultimately from the sun, from which they are ejected out into space at speeds of up to 1000 km a second forming the so-called solar wind.
Building of Olavinlinna, castle of St. Olaf, began in 1475. The Danish-born founder of the castle, knight Erik Axelsson Tott, decided that a powerful fortification should be build to protect the strategically important Savo region. The castle was supposed to repel Russian attacks from the east and to guarantee the control of the Savo region for the Swedish Crown.
