Between 19 – and 23 April 2022, the first-ever teacher training for the English language teachers was held no less than in London's UK capital. In cooperation with the Education and Teacher Training Agency, the Croatian Association of Teachers of English organized the teacher training.
Davorka Nekiæ, one of the 28 teachers from Croatia, took part in the first teacher training and went abroad and learned amazing facts about English history, culture, transport, music, literature, etc., from native speakers and experts in their fields of study. During the training, our teachers broadened their knowledge about the music in Royal Albert Hall, learnt more about Shakespeare and his work in the Globe Theatre, got an unexpected chance to sit in the rehearsal of the highly anticipated play Much Ado About Nothing, London bridges during the boat ride on the river Thames, the art of building on the Tower Bridge, and many more. During the 5-day- training, they visited the Sherlock Holmes Museum and the famous Madame Tussauds. The Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, and Design Museum were also on their visit list. Many photos from the textbooks came alive while strolling the streets of London, so they saw and took lots of pictures of Trafalgar Square, Oxford Street, Piccadilly, Camden & Borough Market, and Covent Garden. After enjoying the musical Mamma Mia in the Theatre Novello, they walked through the streets of West End.
Slavenka and Dan Bryan from Languages United School of Foreign languages from Bath organized a scavenger hunt for Croatian teachers who had to follow 20 clues to find the treasure at the end of the search. To do so, they had to go up and down the whole of Kensington, which was exhausting but fulfilling at the same time. But my absolute favourite part for the teachers was the visit to Reay Primary School, one of the primary schools in London, an educational home for children from3 to 11. Our teachers received a warm welcome from the school headteachers and all the teaching staff, who gave us insight into the teaching system and practice in the UK. Some future cooperation between our school is very likely to happen. So stay tuned.
On 7 October we visited one of Crotian national parks which is also the oldest one. We had a lot of fun on the way there...as well as on the way home...At first the weather was cloudy but it wasn't raining. However, our luck didn't last...During the second half of our sightseeing the rain started...and we hurried to the bus...Some of us got wet more than others.
Despite the weather we had the best time ever!
P.S. It was also our teacher's birthday and our present to her was a folk song wishing her to live until she's 105 and then all over again!
